The stylish Villa Canella is nestled among olive groves in Adelianos Kampos, just 800 metres from the sea. It shares a large plot with the neighbouring Villa Meli, but thanks to its clever layout, each villa enjoys complete privacy.

Villa Canella

Häuser haben eine Persönlichkeit und ein Eigenleben. Deshalb finde ich Architektur so spannend. Die „Villa Canella“ auf Kreta, Nähe Rethymno, ist ein außergewöhnliches Beispiel dafür, was ein Haus kann...
Die letzten Wochen vor den Sommerferien sind jedes Jahr mit den letzten Metern eines Marathons vergleichbar. Entweder bin ich längst über meine körperlichen und psychischen Grenzen hinaus und empfinde nichts mehr oder ich schleppe mich wie ein verwundeter Soldat mit den restlich verbliebenen Kräften ins Lazarett. Meistens ist letzteres der Fall und das Lazarett heißt Griechenland, Spanien oder Frankreich. Diesmal weise ich mich auf Kreta ein. In die „Villa Canella“, in der ich vorher noch nie war.
Nach 45 Minuten Fahrt mit dem Mietwagen vom Flughafen Chania geht's in einen Feldweg, einen halben Kilometer den Berg hoch - die Koordinaten funktionieren einwandfrei- und wir stehen vor dem offenen Tor der Villa.
Ein paar freundliche Menschen sind gerade mit den Reinigungsarbeiten fertig und lassen uns und die Villa miteinander allein. Uns heißt: mein Lebensgefährte und unsere 18-jährige Tochter.
Und dann geschieht das Seltsame. Das Haus umarmt uns. Es heißt uns auf eine herzliche, aber auch therapeutische Art willkommen. Es sagt: alles ist da und in einem ausgezeichneten Zustand. Und auch euch werde ich wieder in einen vorzeigbaren Zustand bringen.
Normalerweise brauche ich eine Woche, bis ich angekommen bin. Weg von den Gedanken um das Dasein, weg von den selbst-gemachten Dramen des Alltags, von meinen eigenen und den Dramen der Anderen. Es ist immer ein weiter und anstrengender Weg bis auch die Hitze der Insel ihren Beitrag zum Aufgeben geleistet hat.
Diesmal ist es anders. Das Haus übernimmt die Führung. Alles ist genau auf die Bedürfnisse eines Zivilisationskranken abgestimmt. Es gibt für jede Tageszeit und jede Aktivität einen passenden Aufenthaltsort. Das hat nichts mit Luxus zu tun, sondern mit intelligenter Gestaltung. Das Haus schickt mich immer genau zum inspirierendsten Platz für das, was ich gerade machen will. Die Ecke am Pool mit der großen Korbliege ist bei Sonnenuntergang der beste Platz zum Lesen. Auf der kleinen, immer schattigen Terrasse hinter den Schlafzimmern finde ich einen Zen-Raum, der mit sofortiger Wirkung das Anhalten der Zeit verursacht. Und so geht es weiter.
Nach einem Tag sind wir alle „angekommen“ bei Canella. Auf Kreta. Im Jetzt.
Nach fünf Tagen will ich nicht mehr weg. Aber das soll ja schlecht sein, wenn man von seinem Therapeuten abhängig wird. Also müssen wir Koffer packen. Das katapultiert mich nun wieder raus aus dem Jetzt und rein in meine Gedankenwelt. Ich überlege, wann ich wiederkommen kann. Trotzdem bleibt ein Therapieerfolg: gelassener als vorher und mit einer neuen Freundin ziehen wir weiter.

Eco tax

Since the beginning of 2024, the Greek government has introduced an eco-tax for all guests in Greece.

This is staggered according to category and season:

The fee from 1 April - 31 October is €15.00/night per villa 
and from 1 November - 31 March €4.00/night, regardless of the number of guests.

The amount can be transferred to us before arrival or paid in cash or by Visa or Master Card.

Booking conditions

From 7 November to 30 April, the price does not include electricity, which will be charged separately according to consumption. Minimum booking period is 4 weeks!

The pool is not in operation from December to the end of March. Final cleaning is included in the price. No interim cleaning is included during this period.

During the normal season, from 1 May to 6 November, final cleaning, electricity, water, etc. are included. Air conditioning is included for normal consumption.

Long-term holidaymakers, please enquire about prices.
